WESIVO APPLICATION NOTE

Water-Treatment Pump Pressure Spikes: A Published Case and RFQ Checklist

Review a publicly documented Ashcroft gauge-failure case, then prepare a pressure-instrument RFQ with event conditions, measurement purpose, assembly details and acceptance evidence.

What the public case reports

A public Ashcroft case describes water-treatment pump gauges that no longer returned to zero. Peak indication and returned-instrument inspection identified overpressure exposure. Ashcroft reported that pressure-limiting valves resolved the failures attributed to pressure spikes. The original investigation is linked in the sources below.

Case attribution and scope

This was Ashcroft's published investigation, not a WESIVO installation, customer reference or test. The rest of this page is WESIVO's general RFQ and handover guidance. It adds no customer measurements, saving figures or claims that a WESIVO model reproduces the reported result. Protection selection for another pump station requires its own review.

Write the measurement purpose before choosing a model

For a proposed pump-station channel, state whether the operator needs a steady local reading, a control-system signal or evidence of a brief pressure event. These are different acceptance objectives. Ask the project team to define which operating changes must remain visible and what response information the supplier must provide. A general pressure range and an accuracy figure do not answer the whole request.

Describe the event and the complete connection

Provide a tagged drawing showing the pressure take-off and the proposed instrument connection. Record the actual medium, operating temperature, pressure reference, normal operating envelope and any documented transient information. Mark unknown peak magnitude or duration as unknown. Include the installed accessories and any shared gauge, switch or seal assembly. Ask the supplier to review the whole arrangement, with suitable response evidence, rather than quoting a sensor body alone.

Keep protection and signal settings in the same review

Use the linked technical guide to distinguish physical restriction, electronic signal damping and switching delay. Have the responsible project engineer approve the protection arrangement and allowable measurement delay. Document the basis for the selection and the function of each component. This checklist does not specify a restriction size, a pressure-limiter setting or a pump-protection trip value.

Prepare an RFQ that can be checked

  • Instrument tag, installation drawing and the required local or remote reading.
  • Medium, material compatibility, pressure reference and operating conditions.
  • Known event evidence and a separate list of uncertainties requiring review.
  • Required output, receiving equipment and the selected processing settings.
  • Complete accessory list, supplier response information and agreed acceptance method.

Keep the approved configuration with the quotation so substitutions and later replacements can be reviewed against the same requirements.

Where WESIVO product information fits

WESIVO publishes a 720 silicon piezoresistive pressure-sensor entry and an 880 digital pressure-gauge entry with product documentation. Use these as starting points for configuration questions. Their listings do not establish suitability for a particular pressure spike, a high-speed diagnostic bandwidth or a protective function. Confirm the complete ordered version, process compatibility, pressure limits and time-response information before deciding its role in the channel.

Agree on the handover evidence

Record the approved assembly, configuration revision, check method and result. If the objective includes detecting a brief event, obtain an agreed measurement plan appropriate to that event rather than accepting a stable screen alone. Installation and testing must follow equipment documentation and the site's approved process. Report only the evidence actually collected; leave unverified event conditions explicit.
