The published example

Endress+Hauser describes New Belgium Brewing's Asheville brewery reviewing its manual RTD calibration work and testing an iTHERM TrustSens thermometer as an alternative. The account identifies handling a portable hot-oil micro-bath as one part of the maintenance challenge.

Start with a tag register, not a replacement count

For a proposed project, ask the brewery team to identify each measurement point and why its reading matters. Keep the existing sensor, transmitter and receiving channel against the same tag, with drawings or photographs supplied by the customer. Mark missing details instead of filling them with an assumed standard configuration.

A useful enquiry separates the normal process measurement from any cleaning or maintenance conditions that the ordered assembly must accommodate. Ask the responsible plant team to state those conditions and required materials; the word brewery alone does not define them.

Decide what evidence the work must produce

Record whether the request concerns an actual sensor comparison, the sensor and transmitter together, or an electrical input check. These are different scopes. The linked RTD test-scope article explains how to document what is included and what remains outside the test.

Ask the owner to define the required test points, acceptance criteria, reference evidence and record format before a quotation is approved. If a self-checking instrument is being considered, request the exact configuration's documented coverage and limitations. Do not assume a diagnostic event replaces every test required by the owner's quality system.

Make mechanical and signal requirements explicit

• Provide the process connection or clamp drawing, probe dimensions and required insertion position.
• Identify the sensor type, existing cable arrangement and the receiving input.
• State the ordered output, configured range and units, rather than copying them from an unrelated tag.
• Request the applicable material, seal and hygiene documentation for the complete proposed assembly.
• Identify who is responsible for installation review, testing, records and release back to service.
